Joanna’s Comments

Knockendarroch Hotel is located in a handsome Victorian house in the attractive, bustling town of Pitlochry. The town is halfway between Edinburgh and Inverness and has attracted tourists for almost 200 years. They come for the spectacular Highland scenery, the shops, the famous Salmon Ladder, whisky distilleries and the many castles in the area. Pitlochry is home to the Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Scotland’s largest rotating repertory theatre, which runs from May to October.  Knockendarroch offers a pre-theatre dinner with complimentary transport to and from the theatre (during the theatre’s main summer season). Fishing, hiking and golf are other pursuits visitors can enjoy. With views over the town and the surrounding countryside, Knockendarroch offers a warm welcome and delicious food in the dining room. The Scottish breakfast is not to be missed! A new conservatory brings the sunshine in on lovely summer evenings. Comfort is very important here.  Owners Struan and Louise made sure that every room is light, bright and beautifully decorated. Rooms and bathrooms are recently renovated and being a Victorian house, the rooms are of good size. There are 18 rooms in total – 14 rooms and suites in the Main House, and one large suite plus three garden rooms in the Larch House, which is adjacent to the hotel. There is no elevator in the hotel, but one classic room and one suite are on the ground floor, both with walk-in showers. The sitting rooms are relaxing, with comfortable sofas, books and roaring fires during cooler weather. Knockendarroch was awarded “Scottish Hotel of the Year” in 2019 by The Good Hotel Guide, achieved Gold Status for Service in the Four-Star Category from the Scottish Tourist Board in 2021, and in the same year was certified as a Carbon Neutral Business.

For those of you who remember Henrietta Fergusson at Killiecrankie, she told me Knockendarroch was the only hotel for me in Pitlochry. She would be pleased that I am now working with Struan and Louise, as their philosophy is much the same as hers. This is a special place where guests are made to feel very much at home.

Knockendarroch closes for the season on December 14, 2024.
